Let’s embark together on an unforgettable adventure aboard VIVA One, on the majestic Rhine, with VIVA Cruises. Let’s discover together the strong points and the small drawbacks of this exceptional river cruise. Immerse yourself in a world of comfort, discoveries and flavors along the sparkling waters of the Rhine.
Discovery of the charming city of Düsseldorf #
When we arrived in Düsseldorf, the atmosphere was very festive with a notable presence of many Scots in kilts preparing for the Euro while tasting local beers. Located a few meters from the prestigious NRW-Forum Gallery, the VIVA One quietly awaited its new guests, serenely moored on the Rhine, despite the recent floods in the south of Germany.
On board the VIVA One #
VIVA One is VIVA Cruises’ first river cruise ship, featuring three decks (Diamond, Ruby and Emerald) and 88 cabins for up to 176 passengers. This all-inclusive concept includes selected wines and spirits at any time of the day or night.

Our double cabin on Diamond Deck offered a generous and modern space, air-conditioned, with floor-to-ceiling sliding French windows. The room also included a king-size bed with satin sheets, a large flat-screen TV, a small sitting area, a work area, a Nespresso machine, and a minibar replenished daily.
Equipment and facilities #
Two complimentary audio receivers for guided excursions were available in each cabin, accompanied by soft diamond-patterned carpeting for a perfect finish. The bathroom had an electric rain shower and luxury Rituals toiletries.
VIVA One offers two restaurants on board: the Riverside, the main restaurant offering silver service for all three meals of the day, and VIVA’s Bistro, located at the rear, which offers a lighter alternative for dinner and drinks and snacks all day.
The nerve center of the ship is the spacious Panoramic Lounge, ideal for relaxing and enjoying hot snacks and drinks, while admiring the scenery. Captain Plamen and his team were always warm and engaged, ready to tell passengers a joke or two.
The highlights of life on board #
The cruise director, Alex, made his daily announcements in the Panoramic Lounge, with a policy of limiting cabin announcements to emergencies only. The Lounge was also the place for entertainment, with Andrea and Matt, a charming duo who knew how to captivate the audience with acoustic sessions and Europop DJ mixes.
The spa, hammam and sauna are located below the main deck, as is a small, well-equipped gym. On the sun deck, numerous deckchairs and deck chairs allow you to rest, with a catering service, and a hot tub is available for those who wish to relax.
Gastronomic experience #
The Riverside Restaurant offers an open seating policy allowing you to join other passengers or dine alone. Our dinner on the first night was a triumph with exceptional service provided by Nuno, our server. The more intimate VIVA Bistro requires advance reservation and offers a three-course set menu each evening, focusing primarily on seafood and steaks, as well as a vegetarian option.
Exploring call ports #
River cruises often allow you to stop in the heart of towns and villages. Amsterdam, Brussels and Antwerp are must-sees for visitors, offering plenty of opportunities for discovery. Hoorn, a charming little port town, was a pleasant surprise with its well-preserved historic center and ancient monuments testifying to its rich maritime past.

Memorable events #
One of the highlights of the cruise was sailing along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal, the busiest artificial canal in the world, stretching 72 kilometers. On board, Captain Plamen returned us safely to Düsseldorf, followed by an epic gala evening with a banquet prepared by the chefs and an impressive afternoon tea.
