An exceptional place that remains fascinating #

Discovered in 1899, the Padirac chasm has become one of France’s most cherished natural treasures. Located near Rocamadour, it consistently attracts numerous visitors thanks to its water in shades of green and turquoise, and especially its “Grand Dome,” a true mineral cathedral rising 95 meters high. Last year, the site set a record with over 537,000 visitors, marking a 2.6% increase from 2023, notably thanks to immersive events.

An immersive theater piece #

This year, the chasm renews the theatrical experience on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of Jules Verne’s iconic novel, *Journey to the Center of the Earth*. In May 2024, an immersive play already captivated over 200 spectators during the site’s inauguration. “We have received numerous requests, and we are ready to renew the experience on May 8 and 9, 2025,” proclaims Arnaud Bamvens, the operations manager. With improved technical mastery, spectators will be able to dive into the plot to rediscover the story beneath our feet.

Explorer Evenings by Lantern Light #

Nighttime walks are highlighted here. With the “Explorer Evenings”, visitors will have the chance to experience a boat crossing illuminated by lantern light. In 2025, these evenings will modernize to create a nostalgic ambiance reminiscent of the late 19th century. The boatmen will wear period costumes, while audio guides will recount the discovery of the galleries. “Visitors will even be able to participate by playing period roles,” emphasizes Arnaud Bamvens.

Festive Events and Souvenirs #

The Padirac chasm is also going all out to ensure memorable moments with events such as the traditional Easter egg hunt, which will take place in the heart of the cavity. The enthusiasm for this site seems unwavering, as some visitors return with souvenirs from the 1950s! This loyalty is honored by a new award with three stars in the Michelin Guide Travel & Cultures 2025. This reflects the site’s commitment to preserving and promoting this exceptional location.
