On April 11, a meeting took place within the Pays de Sommières community to honor the actors involved in sustainable tourism. This award, titled “Pays de Sommières Sustainable Tourism”, aims to recognize the efforts made by professionals to promote tourism that respects the environment and local heritage. Presided over by Pierre Martinez, this ceremony highlighted the region’s commitment to a more sustainable tourism future.

A project supported by the tourist office

This innovative project is the result of a collaborative effort within the tourist office, led by Christel Caravella. Together with Sonia Aubry, the president of the office, an evaluation framework has been established for this award. The goal is not only to encourage good practices but also to raise awareness among local actors about the challenges of sustainable development in the tourism sector.

Rigorous evaluation criteria

The award is granted for a duration of three years and is based on a systematic evaluation grid that includes ten essential criteria. Among these, there is soft mobility, management of resources such as water, energy, and waste, as well as initiatives related to biodiversity and sustainable buildings. Social engagement and short supply chains are also taken into account, reflecting the importance of the local social and economic fabric.

A recognition for committed professionals

During this ceremony, fifteen professionals from the territory were honored and received an official badge to display in their premises, as well as a signaling sticker. This enhanced visibility in the communication materials of the tourist office will provide them a unique opportunity to stand out in a sector increasingly sensitive to ecological issues.

A friendly moment to celebrate successes

To conclude this event, a glass of friendship was shared among the participants, thus strengthening the links between the actors of the territory. This moment of camaraderie allowed discussions about upcoming challenges and the exchange of ideas on the future of sustainable tourism in the region. Many experts and enthusiasts from the sector were present, reflecting a growing interest in green initiatives.

As the tourism sector continues to evolve, it is essential to highlight actions that promote responsible tourism. To explore other dimensions of sustainable tourism, recent articles discuss various themes such as the management of CO2 emissions, the impacts of the pandemic on the sector, and emerging trends in travel.

This ceremony is an inspiring example of what can be achieved when local actors join forces to reach common objectives in sustainable development and the preservation of local heritage.
