An enchanting promise #
Ah, the appeal of unusual stays! Who has never dreamed of spending a night in a tiny house, a colorful caravan or even a cabin perched in the trees? On our last trip, we found the perfect listing on Airbnb: a wooden hut on the edge of a lake, promised as the dream retreat for a relaxing weekend. The setting was idyllic, the view spectacular, and the photos sparkled like shooting stars. We were ready for adventure!
Reality: another setting #
When we arrived, disillusionment set in faster than a black cloud over a summer barbecue. The hut, while charming from the outside, revealed an interior that could have been a candidate for a horror film. The wooden walls creaked like old bones, and wandering insects competed for our attention. The cleanliness left something to be desired, and we quickly realized that the “lunch included” was nothing more than a packet of expired biscuits left on the table.

The crash of the wind against the walls of our precarious shelter could have been an extract from a horror film, with us, the main characters, stuck inside, listening to the elements unleashed. Water began to break through the roof, forcing us to readjust our blankets like tents in high winds.
Customer service… in ghost mode #
Having never needed theory on *”coping skills”* before, we tried to contact our host. After all, calling on theassistance customer, it’s the first reflex of modern travelers, right? Unfortunately, it manifested itself as something of a ghost: no response to messages, nor any sign of life on the platform. In short, we were alone in our misfortune.
A lesson learned #
Finally, after a night of suspense, strange noises (if only we had had a little dog to defend our hut) and sleep that had become a distant memory, we made the decision to leave our shelter to try to return to civilization. If our adventure has taught us anything, it is that there is a world of differences between atypical accommodation and those who truly leave us with pleasant memories.
