According to Roxanne, one of the impacted gardeners, she was alerted by friends and went to the site with growing concern.
What awaited him was much more than a simple incident: an impressive motorhome parade, estimated between 100 and 150, had fallen on the ground, destroying strawberries, tomatoes and salads which had taken months to mature.
Emotions on edge #
Roxanne, although not the owner of the affected plots, could not contain her tears in the face of the spectacle of desolation. “How will the gardener be able to rectify the situation after such a rampage?” she lamented. This feeling of helplessness is palpable among many gardeners, who wonder how to continue cultivating their spaces after such an intrusion.
Unexplainable violence #
Hervé Pineau, the mayor of Marsilly, recognized that traveling people had taken possession of the neighboring sports complex. Despite the municipality’s efforts to protect the site with concrete blocks, these were bypassed. “They used great violence,” he declared, referring to the destruction of steel fences surrounding the garden. The hedge which previously protected the site did not escape the wrath of these intruders.

An alarming situation #
Today, nearly 150 caravans, representing approximately 300 people, occupy the sports plain in Marsilly. Roxanne, returning to the site to garden, feels a “ball in the stomach”. In response to this crisis, the mayor took additional measures by ordering 6-ton blocks to secure access.
