IN BRIEF
|
This 13-day expedition to Greenland offers a unique opportunity to explore the scientific advancements that define our time. Amidst the vastness of this Arctic landscape, participants will be immersed in an adventure that combines research, ecology, and cultural heritage. This journey will enhance understanding of the impacts of global warming while discovering the innovations shaping the 21st century.
A Journey to the Heart of Greenland #
The journey begins in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, where participants board the luxurious expedition ship, the Exploris One. Equipped with zodiacs, this 5-star vessel is designed to navigate sometimes tumultuous Arctic waters. Over these 13 days, travelers will have the opportunity to explore majestic fjords, impressive glaciers, and isolated communities. Each stop is punctuated by scientific activities, allowing participants to take part in research on biodiversity and environmental changes.
The Stakes of Scientific Research #
Throughout this expedition, scientists unite their efforts to study the effects of global warming on Greenland’s fragile ecosystem. Teams of researchers, including high school students from the Grand Est joining an enriching expedition in 2024, will analyze glacial deposits and marine life damaged by ice drift. This research aims to understand how ecosystems adapt and what measures can be implemented to preserve this threatened region.
A Historic Journey Inspired by the Past #
This journey also recalls famous expeditions of the past, such as that of Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen aboard the Fram, which paved the way for many discoveries in the Arctic. Participants will have the chance to learn more about Paul-Émile Victor, an emblematic figure of polar exploration, while observing how the knowledge accumulated over the centuries has shaped our current understanding of the climate.
Engagement with Inuit Culture #
The cruise would not be complete without interaction with Inuit culture, which has adapted to the rigors of this environment. Participants will discover the traditional way of life of the Inuit, their hunting techniques, and their habits. This ancestral knowledge plays a crucial role in the conservation of marine and terrestrial ecosystems. By discovering these practices, travelers will appreciate the close ties that bind humans to their environment.
