An Increasing Attendance #

In 2024, the Sud region recorded a tourist attendance increase of nearly 3%, already surpassing the performance of 2023, which had been a reference point for records. Foreign visitors, particularly Americans and Asians, significantly contributed to this momentum. Additionally, Dutch visitors chose to reinvest in the region’s campsites, confirming their position as leaders in outdoor tourism.

Major Events #

This year was also marked by large-scale events that required careful preparation and generated substantial economic returns. The Rugby World Cup in 2023 had already made its mark, but 2024 saw the arrival of the Olympic flame in May, attracting 250,000 people and generating nearly 20 million euros in economic returns. Furthermore, the events of the Summer Olympic Games held in the region also contributed to about 200 million euros in profits.

The Tour de France, a Key Event #

One of the standout events was the historic stage of the Tour de France which made a stop in Nice. With hotel occupancy reaching 98%, this event ensured returns of 50 million euros, sparking interest not only from cycling enthusiasts but also from the media, with the Embrun-Isola stage recording the highest viewership on France Télévisions.

The region is committed to removing barriers that hinder accessibility while aiming to capitalize on its growing reputation, exemplified by the United Nations Ocean Conference that will take place in Nice in June 2025.
