IN BRIEF
|
In a context that was both memorable and festive, the Association of combatants and Opex of Balaruc-les-Bains, known as Acobb, recently offered its members an unforgettable culinary adventure. Between gastronomic discoveries and local traditions, this trip to Aude and Gers allowed about fifty members to rediscover the richness of local products and come together around regional cuisine.
The gastronomic journey begins #
From December 1st to 3rd, Acobb decided to combine the pleasure of taste and local culture by organizing a trip that captivated all its participants. With a remarkable stop at the Foire au gras de Castelnaudary, this stay highlighted the flagship products of the region, particularly the famous duck, whose production and preparation give this locality its fame. Visitors were able to be swept away by a vibrant atmosphere, where the aromas of gastronomy mingled with the songs and laughter of the exhibitors.
The discovery of duck from all angles #
The next day, a cooking class allowed each participant to enhance their culinary skills. Guided by a passionate chef, everyone explored the different ways to prepare duck. From grilled breast to confit pieces, no part of the bird was left aside. This experience was both a delight for the senses and a moment of sharing, as the members could taste the dishes crafted together. Laughter and exchanges enriched this culinary morning, making the experience even warmer and more friendly.
Tasting and Gers traditions #
The last day was an opportunity to discover Gers, another emblematic region of French terroir. The gastronomic explorers headed to Auch, a city with a rich cultural heritage. The guided tour mixed history and gastronomy, providing a well-deserved break to digest the previously tasted delights. In the afternoon, it was the turn of armagnac and floc de Gascogne to take center stage. This tasting allowed Acobb members to appreciate the subtleties of these emblematic beverages, while escaping the cold thanks to the warmth of the spirits.
A return filled with memories #
The return to Balaruc was marked not only by unforgettable taste memories but also by a shared commitment. Indeed, on December 5th, Acobb participated in the national day of tribute dedicated to the dead for France during the Algerian war and the combats in Morocco and Tunisia. This double commitment – culinary and commemorative – allowed the association’s members to strengthen their bond while honoring the memory of those who served bravely.

This gastronomic journey proved once again that regional cuisine is much more than a simple act of consumption, but a true human adventure, full of flavors and sharing. Each dish tasted told a story, each meeting was an opportunity for rich exchanges, making this experience an authentic moment etched in memories.
