Recently, a group of young people from Longuenée-en-Anjou had the opportunity to experience an unforgettable adventure in Burundi, an experience they wanted to share with their community. Wearing traditional Burundian attire, they recounted their cultural and human discoveries during a memorable event. This meeting attracted a large audience, including elected officials, facilitating rich exchanges around this humanitarian trip.
A framework for sharing and learning #
The evening took place in the Gaboriau hall, where more than fifty people gathered to listen to the stories of these young adventurers. Among the guests were local figures, such as delegated mayors Claude Guérin and Daniel Raverdy, and departmental advisor Jean-Luc Rotureau. This setting provided an ideal platform to share the impressions and reflections of the participants.
A journey to the heart of Burundian culture #
Five young people, aged 16 to 20, had the opportunity to travel to Itaba, a lively municipality with over 50,000 inhabitants. They were immersed in a rich and diverse culture, living at the rhythm of local traditions and human exchanges. This journey opened their minds and broadened their worldview. William Malot, president of the intercommunal youth association (Ajic), emphasized the importance of this experience: “Our general idea is to share our experience to inspire others to undertake such travel projects.”
Strong interaction with the audience #
After the screening of a short film illustrating their journey, the young people had the opportunity to testify and exchange with the audience present. The stories recounted were filled with emotions and provided insights into the lives of Burundians, their challenges, and their joys. This moment of sharing not only allowed for the discovery of Burundi but also created connections between the participants and the audience.
A project with future prospects #
The feedback on this excursion goes beyond mere testimony; it fits into a broader approach. The board of directors of the Ajic aims to develop a partnership with the youth of Itaba, thus creating opportunities for future projects. This desire for continuity reflects the commitment of the young people involved in this program, who wish to establish lasting and constructive relationships with Burundians.

An call to action for other young people #
Through this initiative, the Ajic hopes to inspire other young people to engage in international solidarity projects. By sharing their experience, these young people highlight the importance of open-mindedness and the discovery of other cultures. They encourage their peers to consider such experiences, which are often sources of learning and personal growth.
