An Emerging Vocation #
Originally from Mireval and drawing on his experience as an architect for thirty years in Montpellier, Nicolas took an unexpected artistic path. Through his travels to various destinations, he found a means of expression at the intersection of photography, drawing, and collage. His practice began in 2010 in Shanghai, where he started experimenting with collages and paintings, integrating elements of local material into his creations.
A Multi-Technical Artistic Practice #
For Nicolas, the travel sketchbook represents much more than a simple collection of memories. “The travel sketchbook is a way to reinvent travel,”multi-technical. His work incorporates a variety of approaches, such as watercolor, calligraphy, and collage, thus enriching his visual narratives.
An Interaction with the World #
Nicolas’s creative process is also a social adventure. Although he often compares his work to a solitary practice, he frequently finds himself surrounded by curious onlookers. When he draws in a busy street, his art attracts fascinated passersby, creating unexpected moments of exchange. “People love to come see what I’m drawing,”
From Personal Sketchbooks to Professional Exhibitions #
Nicolas has developed his art over time, accumulating between 40 and 50 sketchbooks that he carefully publishes, using beautiful papers and various formats. His meeting with the International Travel Sketchbook Rendezvous in Clermont-Ferrand propelled his work onto the artistic scene, allowing him to exhibit his creations across France, notably in Lattes. Each exhibition is an opportunity to share his visual universe and inspire other travel enthusiasts.

An Endless Source of Inspiration #
Never short of ideas, Nicolas tackles various projects, even exploring unexpected themes. Currently, he is working on the theme of sardine cans, a subject that allows him to associate memories of past travels with culinary art. In his future projects, he plans excursions to Florence, Scotland, and Barcelona, in search of Gaudi’s unique universe. For him, each journey represents a new opportunity to capture the essence of the places visited through his art.
