On February 14, the Minister Delegate for Tourism, Nathalie Delattre, made a visit to Lot-et-Garonne, marked by a symbolic stop at Villeneuve-sur-Lot. At the heart of this initiative, local elected officials aim to create a collective dynamic to promote the valley as a preferred tourist destination while respecting sustainable practices.

A journey rich in discoveries #

Accompanied by Deputy Lepers, Senator Masset, and Mayor Régnier, the minister was guided through the jewels of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, nicknamed the “most beautiful river bastide in the Southwest.” This tour includes emblematic sites such as the Cieutat bridge, the Lakanal hall, and Lafayette square. The day continued with a lunch by the Lot, followed by a meeting at the Town Hall, where the challenges of tourism in the Lot Valley were at the heart of discussions.

A merger project for dynamic tourism #

The merger of the tourist offices of Villeneuve, Fumel, and Lot & Tolzac is part of a desire to pool their efforts for a more coherent tourism strategy. Indeed, elected officials have noted that the current offices, often too small and poorly oriented towards development, lack effectiveness in connecting with service providers. This project thus aims to strengthen coordination on river facilities and improve information regarding the various uses of the Lot, including swimming and water activities.

A focus on river and fluvial development #

During the presentation before the minister, representatives affirmed their determination to assert their positioning as a river and fluvial destination. This term encompasses the idea of linking water activities with those of the banks. The merger aims to create a homogeneous tourist destination ranging from Castelmoron to Bonaguil, and to strengthen the brand identity around the Lot Valley.

The next steps of the project #

The path towards the realization of this merger remains complex. The communities of communes will need to approve the creation of a tripartite agreement. Subsequently, a consulting firm will be appointed to conduct a thorough assessment of the three offices and to suggest organizational and operational solutions. The introduction of a common identity for the new office is under consideration. Although its name is not yet final, it is likely that “Vallée du Lot” will be included.

A great ambition for the region’s future tourism #

Elected officials hope that this merger will be implemented by early 2026, thus making this office a major player in Lot-et-Garonne tourism. With a clear vision and concerted actions, the Lot Valley is preparing to become a tourist showcase that combines environmental respect and economic dynamism. This project represents a true opportunity for the region, encouraging the rediscovery of its natural and cultural riches while strengthening the bond between its local stakeholders.
