The departure from Avranches #
The journey begins in Avranches, a city rich in history and culture, located in Normandy. Equipped with his bike, Guénaël sets off on the roads, determined to cross France and reach Norway. Each pedal stroke is an immersion into varied landscapes, punctuated by exciting encounters. However, the magic of the adventure is not without challenges. The whims of the weather and sometimes steep roads require a good dose of tenacity.
The Lofoten Islands: a dream come true #
After a long journey, Guénaël finally arrives at the Lofoten Islands on January 30, 2025. This archipelago is known for its majestic mountains and impressive fjords, where nature seems to have been sculpted by time. Unfortunately, the wintry weather conditions forced him to abandon his bike for a van journey to his destination. Despite this change of plans, he realizes that the landscapes he discovers are breathtaking, and it is worth it.
A new job in Lofoten #
Settled on-site, Guénaël quickly finds a job as a receptionist at a hotel of a manager he has met. This new job allows him to meet employees from all over the world, adding an enriching dimension to his stay. Between work tasks and outdoor activities, he also discovers the joys of efoil, a water activity that involves flying above water on a motorized board.
Towards the viking festival #
Guénaël does not simply settle for working; he also plans to participate in a viking festival in Fordnordjeid. This festival highlights Nordic culture and notably features the launch of a viking ship. This experience promises to be a highlight of his journey, especially due to the presence of renowned personalities from the famous series Vikings and Game of Thrones.

An extended stay to discover each season #
As he immerses himself in the local atmosphere, Guénaël is already dreaming of the continuation of his adventure. He plans to extend his stay until September, wanting to appreciate the transition of the seasons. Summer promises milder temperatures, ideal for biking across the country to reach the North Cape. The beauty of the Norwegian landscapes, already seen during his first months, gives him a glimpse of other equally magnificent natural jewels.
An unforgettable moment with the northern lights #
New Year’s Day in Sandane offers a surprise to Guénaël: he sees the northern lights for the first time. This enchanting natural spectacle lights up the sky with a dazzling palette of colors, a memory etched forever in his mind. These magical moments strengthen his passion for this Nordic land and fuel his desire to explore even further.
