A long-awaited transformation #
Located in the historic district of Old Nice, the Convent of the Visitation is about to open its doors as a sumptuous five-star hotel. After more than a decade of planning and legal setbacks, this transformation was orchestrated by the British company Perseus. Collaborating with Studio Mumbai And Mediterranean Studio for the architecture, as well as with Festen for the interior architecture, the conversion of this 17th century building into luxurious hotel will mark a turning point for the hotel industry in Nice.
An exclusive location #
Perched at the top of Old Nice, just below the castle grounds, the former convent occupies a privileged position. Away from the crowds and surrounded by baroque monuments, it offers a peaceful and refined atmosphere. Customers will be able to benefit from a simplified access thanks to electric carts which will pick them up at the entrance to the district, making the climb to the hotel much more pleasant.
Elegance and authenticity #
Passing through the heavy wooden gates, visitors will be greeted by luggage storage and offices to the right, and a reception open to a pastry shop on the left. There interior courtyard decorated with orange trees and the cloister will lead visitors to the main U-shaped building which houses the establishment’s 88 rooms.
A modern monastic style #
The rooms, like the old monastic cell, display a simple elegance. Ocher-tinted walls frame sober furniture and armchairs draped in beige. THE minimalism ambient invites meditation, while offering 21st century comfort: a marble bathroom, strong shower pressure and excellent wifi, even if the hotel has chosen not to install televisions in the rooms.
A refuge of tranquility in a historic setting #
The one-hectare garden, arranged in successive terraces, is a haven of tranquility. The first level is dedicated to vegetable growing, where we see green salads perfectly aligned ready to be picked. The upper floors offer relaxation areas and a pool 20 meters with a breathtaking view of the roofs of Old Nice and the Mediterranean.
A place to live open to the city #
Much more than a simple hotel, the renovated convent is intended to become a dynamic place to live for the people of Nice. With a bakery, an herbalist and several restaurants, it also offers a library for students interested in the history of the place. Every Saturday morning, a small market will offer local products, further adding to the unique appeal of this establishment.
