IN SHORT |

Imagine a vacation like you’ve never experienced before. Forget fine sandy beaches and luxury hotels, and let yourself be surprised by an unusual experience: spending your vacation at school… windy! Prepare to experience unforgettable moments and push your limits in an original and unique setting.
When the idea of creating a Wind School was launched, it did not seem completely far-fetched. Indeed, in Saint-Clément, the days without wind can be counted on the fingers of one hand. In 2007, in a corner of Ardèche not far from one of the first wind power sites in France, this unique ecotourism “camp” was born. The establishment is located at the crossroads of science and poetry, in partnership with the Center for Technical and Industrial Scientific Culture (CCSTI) of Ardèche.
A museum like no other
Since the renovation of the museum space in 2022, the Wind School provides an interactive experience. Unlike many museums which overuse screens, here, we favor interactivity through “touching, experimenting and manipulating” activities, according to Naomi Dumas, head of the Wind School.
A fascinating sensory journey
The discovery of the School of Wind looks like a real sensory route and intellectual. As soon as you enter, topped by a hot air balloon gondola, you will be greeted by the enchanted legend of the People of the Wind, mysterious beings who once mastered the art of flight. You can then wander around and experience the force of the air, admire the ceiling representing the winds of the world, and discover the seven local zephyrs.
Total immersion in the science of wind
Set off to discover the secrets of drafts in the second room of the museum. You may be surprised to see real trees adorned with woven nests of alder and reeds. Climb into a hanging cabin to read fascinating books. Crossing the region of Mont Mézenc, the highest point (1,753 meters) of Ardèche shared with Haute-Loire, we discover other local surprises, including picturesque sayings.
Feel like a bird
At the Wind School, why not “do like the bird”? Lie in a simulator for a 2D flight above the Saint-Clément lookout. You can also listen to the testimonies of villagers confronted with formidable burle, this northern wind which blows on the Velay plateaus.
In the heart of nature
Don’t miss a visit to wind garden, a space where nature adapts to natural breaths. Take part in a paper bird making workshop or take the controls in a fabulous cockpit. Interactivity is king here, so that you fully experience this unique experience.
Activities for young and old
The visit to the Wind School is freely accessible or accompanied from 6 years old. Miscellaneous entertainment for children are offered by reservation: making kites, boomerangs, windmills, challenges and explorations of all kinds, nature outings and poetic hikes.
For walking enthusiasts, it is possible to go on foot on the Éole trail, 5.5 kilometers long, for total immersion in this fascinating universe. One thing is certain, the holidays at the Wind School will be unforgettable!
