IN BRIEF
|
The development of sustainable tourism in Landes Nature Côte d’Argent is now a priority for the Local Action Group (GAL). Through mobilizing European funds, the GAL is actively involved in supporting and co-financing projects aimed at a responsible, supportive, and environmentally respectful tourism transition. This commitment is particularly illustrated through the Leader program, in line with an ambitious territorial vision focused on year-round resilience. The organization of a dedicated forum, the presentation of concrete initiatives, and consultation with territorial actors demonstrate the dynamism of this approach, essential for preserving and enhancing the natural and heritage assets of the Landes.
A strong commitment to a sustainable transition of the territory
The Local Action Group of Landes Nature Côte d’Argent has placed sustainable tourism at the heart of its strategic priorities. On the occasion of the Beautiful Month of Europe, a forum was held in the Barrat barn in Castets to illustrate the importance of this topic and to take stock of ongoing initiatives. This meeting brought together the Development Council, members of the GAL, and many actors from the tourism sector, highlighting the willingness to promote participatory democracy and the co-construction of local solutions. The Leader program, co-financed by European funds, thus enables the support of projects that embody a balanced vision between economic challenges, environmental respect, and heritage enhancement.
The Leader program, a driver of innovation and local cohesion
Thanks to the Leader program (Linking actions for the development of the rural economy), concrete initiatives are regularly emerging to strengthen the sustainability of tourism in Landes Nature Côte d’Argent. This scheme offers the possibility to co-finance projects directly linked to the major orientations of the territory for 2030. Among the major objectives is the ambition to build a resilient territory year-round, to which the actions of local actors and the regional roadmap for sustainable tourism contribute. The forum in Castets illustrated this dynamic, with the presentation of the Support for changes in tourist territories (ACTT) and a precise assessment of the sector provided by Landes Attractiveness.
Initiatives that promote tourism transformation
The transformation of tourism requires the emergence of measures adapted to new environmental and social challenges. The launch of the new Leader call for projects entitled “Developing and promoting a more sustainable, responsible, and supportive tourism in Landes Nature Côte d’Argent” fits into this logic. Its aim is to support the necessary evolutions to adapt the tourism offer to current expectations while preserving the authenticity of the territory. A guided visit of a section of the future heritage route in Castets allowed participants to concretely appreciate the GAL’s support for achievements contributing to strong rural dynamism.
The importance of acculturation for shared action
The role of elected officials and citizens in the success of the tourism transition was widely emphasized by speakers. As stated by Arnaud Gomez, president of the PETR, it is essential that everyone becomes an actor and expert in the issues related to the preservation and development of the territory. The Development Council has also initiated a reflection on the design of a sustainable and four-season tourism, illustrating the importance of collective mobilization to implement effective and sustainable actions.
Participatory workshops for resilience against climatic hazards
The day concluded with a participatory workshop on tourist resilience in the face of climatic hazards, highlighting the GAL’s commitment to anticipating the challenges that the sector will face in the coming years. This aligns with the major trends observed in France and Europe, where innovation is a key lever for breathing new life into sustainable tourism. The initiative of the GAL Landes Nature Côte d’Argent is thus part of a broader adaptation movement aimed at offering authentic tourism experiences while protecting the environment and local resources.
A broad and connected dynamic
The challenges of sustainable tourism are not limited to the Landes, but also resonate on a global scale, as exemplified by New Caledonia betting on ecotourism or examples of tourist cooperations between Europe and the United States. This international openness inspires local actors to experiment and innovate to meet the needs of both the territory and the visitors, exploring new trends such as gourmet tourism or the revitalization of abandoned villages, as evidenced by the renewal of hotels in Cantal.
