The city of La Rochelle invites residents and visitors to experience a unique sensory experience through a series of free activities, offered from June 30 to July 5 as part of the “Heart of the City Experience” initiative. The Week of the 5 Senses orchestrated by La Rochelle offers an immersion into the sensory world in the heart of the historic center. Craftsmen and merchants of the city join forces to enliven the streets, offering daily activities focused on a specific sense. Through workshops, guided tours, and tasty breaks, young and old are invited to explore the city differently, guided by their sensory impressions and curiosity.
The journey of sight: a Monday dedicated to observation
The kick-off is on Monday, June 30, dedicated to sight. A specially arranged studio on the Old Port will allow visitors to immortalize a moment in an iconic setting of La Rochelle, from 3 PM to 6 PM. The forecourt of the parking lot at Old Port South also hosts deck chairs, inviting visitors to contemplate the trawlers and the marine landscape. A special meeting at 4 PM offers an opportunity to delve into the visual heritage of the city with a visit to Saint-Sauveur church. After 30 years of silence, the bells of the church will resonate once again, making this visual and auditory moment memorable.
Tuesday of touch: heritage at your fingertips
On Tuesday, July 1, the sense of touch takes center stage. Participants are invited to guided tours of iconic places: the Lantern Tower, city hall, and Chain Tower. Each of these visits allows for the rediscovery of architectural richness, to touch the ancient stone, and to feel the history of La Rochelle beneath their fingers. Smell in celebration at the central market
On Wednesday, July 2, the sense of smell is engaged from the morning at the central market.
