Ready to experience an extraordinary summer? Follow the guide to discover why Kynren is the must-see event of the sunny days in England!
Kynren: a living fresco at the heart of County Durham
Imagine a vast stage of seven hectares (the size of five football fields!), a grandstand with 8,000 seats, and a thousand volunteers ready to reenact the great book of England every Saturday night. Kynren does not do things by halves: every scene, every battle, every adventure comes to life with grand sets, dazzling pyrotechnics, and a parade of animals that seem straight out of a dream. On stage, you encounter, mixed together, majestic horses, sheep, goats, and the most awaited troupe… a mischievous gaggle of ducks that rivals the most famous Hollywood stars!
Journey through 2,000 years of myths and legends
The story begins with Arthur, a local boy, propelled into the tumult of the past due to a very British mishap: a football accidentally sent to the wrong place. From Boudicca to the Vikings, from armored knights to the magnificent Jubilee of Queen Victoria, the adventure is a whirlwind! Epic battles, magic, revolts, and emotional moments follow one another under the astonished eyes of the spectators. It’s hard not to feel swept away by this magical journey where each tableau highlights the great milestones of History and its colorful characters.
A memorable summer in 2025 with new features and grand celebrations
The 2025 edition promises to be particularly memorable. Firstly, because it marks the tenth anniversary of Kynren, but also because the show energizes a key scene: the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria! Renewed sets, sparkling costumes, impressive projections, and reorchestrated Victorian music… The historical parade is set to be magnificent, with over 150 actors and 20 horses to bring this moment in history to life. You cannot miss the majestic entrance of the sovereign in her carriage pulled by six horses!
And since a good surprise never comes alone, Kynren also celebrates the anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway: the locomotive Locomotion No.1 will unveil its steam curls on stage. A vibrant nod to the railway adventure that transformed the region… and far beyond, as seen in the epic of the legendary Orient-Express!
The immersive experience of the Viking Village
Before the grand show, the audience can immerse themselves in the daily life of Nordic warriors thanks to the Viking Village. A blacksmith at work, historical Icelandic birds, demonstrations of survival techniques, warrior combat, and unforgettable encounters in an electrifying atmosphere… The pre-show transforms into a true medieval adventure, blending reenactments and interactive activities for the delight of both young and old.
Exceptional dates for a magical experience
To not miss this nocturnal fresco, aim for the Saturdays from July 19 to September 13! The performances start at sunset and finish under the stars, ensuring a magical illumination of every highlight. In 2025, the gates will open as early as 5:15 PM depending on the date, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the activity village before settling in for an astonishing 90-minute show.
For tickets, expect prices starting from £30 for adults and £20 for under 18s; little ones (up to 3 years) are welcome on the lap of mom or dad for free. Book quickly, as each season sells out!
