Propriano, jewel of the Valinco Gulf
Dominated to the east by the reddish hills of Sartenais and bordered by 20 kilometers of indented coastline, Propriano has established itself as a flagship destination since the 1960s. Its marina along the Saint Erasme quay buzzes with arrivals of sailboats and catamarans, where everyone dreams of a nap in the shade of a palm tree. The residents – just 3,500 in winter – see their city transform each summer into a vibrant place, where dolce vita and authenticity go hand in hand.
Sartène and the Corsican soul at Propriano’s doorstep
15 kilometers inland, the beautiful Sartène – this “most Corsican of Corsican towns” – watches from its granite spur. Its classified medieval center, its cobbled streets, the Sainte-Marie church, and the famous Catenacciu procession set the tone: here, we love to celebrate history and pass on living traditions. Lovers of ancient history will not want to miss the incredible site of Filitosa, with its millennia-old menhir statues, or the impressive alignments of Palaggiu, secrets buried in the maquis.
Beaches and panoramas: the Corsican seaside dream
Lido beach – a long stretch of golden sand at the city center’s doorstep – or the black pebbles of Portigliolo, each corner of the coast unfolds a different postcard. The Campomoro point closes the gulf with its wild peninsula, watched over by a spectacular 16th-century Genoese tower. Attention to walkers and adventurers: the 5-kilometer coastal path leading to Campomoro runs alongside creeks, secret beaches, and fragrant vegetation, for hikes worthy of an adventure film! Protected seabeds
The islet of Cavallo, located at the entrance to the gulf, offers divers a thriving underwater world, between seagrass meadows, the wreck of the Dorothée, and impressive rocks of Cagna. Diving, snorkeling, or peaceful observation: everyone finds their iodized happiness!
Authentic flavors and exceptional terroir
With local artisans and producers, Corsican tradition unfolds in all its nuances. The sunny slopes of the Cauria plateau produce award-winning “Vin de Corse Sartène” cuvées, where sciaccarellu and niellucciu are enjoyed in the friendly cellars of the five estates close to the village. Lovers of charcuterie will discover figatellu, coppa, and lonzu prepared according to ancestral methods, while Bocognano chestnut flour enhances local desserts and pastries. Festivities and culture, 100% summer vibe
In 2025, Propriano is launching a new unmissable event: The Concerts du Port. Every week, the Saint Erasme quay comes alive to the sounds of Corsican voices and traditional instruments, including the famous group Libari in July. These festive evenings are part of a cultural dynamic already rhythmically enriched by performances at the municipal theater and pedestrian activities on Wednesday evenings, offering an idyllic setting between sea and mountains.
Heritage and architecture: pure Corsican charm
The old center of Propriano is full of character: traditional stone houses, wrought iron balconies, the fountain with three dolphins, and the war memorial punctuate the strolls through the streets. The Saint-Erasme church, rebuilt in the 19th century, watches over the port, reminding visitors of the maritime heritage that is inseparable from the town. Propriano thus combines authenticity of the past and dynamism of the present, much to the delight of visitors in search of authenticity… but with a twist of modern Corsican flair!
