Located in the heart of Lot, Figeac is a popular destination for nature lovers and explorers. Every summer, the Grand-Figeac Tourist Office and the Federation of Fishing of Lot join forces to offer fishing initiation workshops aimed at children. These workshops, organized in several iconic villages of the region, invite the youngest to explore the rivers and ponds around Figeac, to familiarize themselves with fishing techniques, and to learn about respecting the environment. Supervised by passionate professionals, children benefit from a true immersion in the world of responsible fishing, where playful discovery and learning take center stage.
A beginner’s program designed for children
The fishing workshops offered in Figeac are primarily aimed at children aged 7 to 12, eager to learn about the local aquatic fauna and the essential gestures of fishing. Organized in small groups of a maximum of 10 to 15 participants, these sessions promote friendliness and attentiveness, allowing each child to progress at their own pace. Reservation is essential to ensure optimal organization and provide personalized support throughout the morning.
Timings and locations of the summer workshops
The workshops mainly take place during the summer, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, at various natural sites around Figeac: on July 30, August 6 and 13 in Cajarc; on July 30 in Sonac; on July 31 in Leyme; on August 6 and 9 in Théminettes. Each location offers a peaceful setting conducive to observing nature, in a safe environment for young aspiring fishermen. These morning meetings are part of an educational approach, prioritizing both contact with nature and learning the basics of fishing.
A fun, educational, and responsible experience
Throughout the session, participants are guided by an experienced instructor who assists them in discovering the world of responsible fishing. Children learn to recognize different species of fish present in Lot, to use the appropriate tools, and to understand how to respect biodiversity and the balance of aquatic ecosystems. This approach raises awareness from a young age about the preservation of wildlife and flora, making the experience both enriching and entertaining.
All equipment provided and a fishing license included
To ensure a worry-free experience, all fishing equipment is lent by the organization. Rods, bait, nets, everything is provided so that each child can easily and safely start. Additionally, the Federation of Fishing of Lot offers a fishing license to each participant, thus including all children in a genuine official initiation process. The cost is only 12 €, a reasonable investment for such an educational and enjoyable activity.
Values of respect and learning at the heart of the workshops
Beyond the technical aspect, these workshops aim to convey strong values. The respect for the environment, the learning of eco-responsible gestures, and the discovery of the richness of local natural heritage are integral to the program.
