Behind this initiative, a team from “Dream City” has examined the issue by cross-referencing various complex factors to create this unique barometer.
The four main criteria analyzed
The Touriscore does not just measure the flow of tourists in flip-flops and with cameras. It examines four key elements: first, the proportion of tourist rentals in the city center. Next, the percentage of properties rented out as tourist accommodations in the local market. Additionally, the number of professional renters (the famous Airbnb pros who keep the nights rolling), as well as the density of bars and restaurants per square kilometer, along with all the small joys – but also the nuisances – that this can bring, particularly in terms of traffic, noise, or waste management.
Results that pique curiosity
Out of a total of 331 municipalities examined, four out of ten earn a Touriscore A or B, synonymous with tourist tranquility. Conversely, three out of ten show a score in D or E, alerting about high attendance and its consequences for locals. Regarding distribution: unsurprisingly, the less visited suburbs lead with the best scores, while sought-after seaside gems and star tourist cities often see their scores drop.
