The shallow foundations – only three meters – were insufficient for the load of the tower, accentuating its inclination from the start of the work. Rescue efforts to preserve the tower
Faced with an increased risk of collapse, an ambitious stabilization project was implemented between 1990 and 2001. This project included the reinforcement of the foundations and the extraction of part of the soil to slightly straighten the structure. Thanks to these interventions, the tower is now stabilized and should remain standing for future generations.

After a decade of closure for construction, the tower is once again open to the public, attracting thousands of tourists each year.
