With a cost of 148 million euros, this ultramodern equipment, designed to transport skiers and hikers, stands out with its impressive figures promising a spectacular ascent to a height of 3200 m. Let’s dive into this technological feat worthy of the greatest achievements in the Alps!

The Jandri, a technological gem at 148 million euros

The ski resort of Les Deux-Alpes is getting a makeover with the inauguration of the Jandri cable car, an impressive achievement that has surely garnered admiration. With a cost of 148 million euros, this ultramodern equipment marks a turning point for the ski area, promising unprecedented performance for skiers and hikers. Let’s zoom in on the figures that make this cable car a true technological marvel.

A colossal investment

This equipment is part of a global investment of nearly 650 million euros allocated to the modernization of infrastructures and the improvement of the customer experience in the resorts of Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux-Alpes. The Jandri cable car spans a distance of 6.4 km, connecting the station at an altitude of 1600 m to the foothills of the glacier at 3200 m. This monumental journey takes just 17 minutes, with an intermediate station at 2600 m, thereby optimizing visitor waiting times.

Cutting-edge technology

The Jandri cable car utilizes an innovative technology called 3S, which consists of two carrying cables and one traction cable. Equipped with 52 cabins each able to accommodate 32 passengers (including 24 seated), the cable car allows for the transportation of 3000 people per hour. It’s not just about capacity: the travel speed of 8 m/s (approximately 28.8 km/h) offers royal comfort and a fast ascent to the slopes.

Reduction of visual and environmental impacts

An important aspect of the project is the reduction of pylons: the new cable car features only 7 super pylons, compared to 17 for the old Jandri Express. This demonstrates a concern for the aesthetics of the mountain landscape while respecting the environment. Additionally, the system is equipped with energy recovery during descents, thus optimizing its electricity consumption and minimizing its ecological impact.

An enhanced experience for users

With this investment, Les Deux-Alpes firmly positions itself among the most modern ski resorts in the country. This cable car not only represents an asset for skiers, but also for hiking and mountain biking enthusiasts, as it is designed to operate year-round. Visitors can thus enjoy breathtaking views of the alpine landscapes both in winter and summer, providing a rich and varied experience.

A feat accomplished in record time

The cable car building is the result of a colossal project completed in just 18 months. This speed of execution, combined with the quality of materials used and the expertise mobilized, illustrates the commitment of investors and managers to make this project as efficient as it is spectacular. The companies involved in its construction are mostly local, thus supporting the regional economy.
