The students of Lakanal College in Foix are demonstrating remarkable ingenuity to fund their trip to Spain. Indeed, they are organizing cake sales and distributing flyers to encourage donations. Their project, which aims to immerse them in Aragonese culture during a stay in Saragossa, reflects their determination and creativity. The middle schoolers, guided by their teachers, are deploying a variety of initiatives to raise funds, and their thirst for learning far exceeds the simple school excursion.

A project coming to fruition

From February 3 to 7, 34 middle school students will head to Saragossa for a rewarding adventure in host families. This trip is not just a simple outing, but a true discovery of Spanish culture. To realize this project, a budget is necessary, and the students quickly understood that they needed to be proactive. With the support of their teachers, they are exploring different ways to raise funds and are fully committed to this collective initiative.

A welcome digital initiative

The middle schoolers have adapted to modern technologies by launching an online fund. To achieve this, they created brochures containing a QR code, allowing donors to easily make a financial gesture. Lucas, one of the participating students, explains that this method has opened many doors for them. By distributing these flyers in their community, they are raising awareness among residents about their project and raising funds through the generosity of their fellow citizens.

The cake sale: a sweet success

Alongside their digital efforts, the middle schoolers have also turned to selling homemade cakes. By splitting into small groups, they concocted sweets sold in their neighborhood. “The group from my old school offered our cakes to everyone passing by,” adds Lucas. This initiative has borne fruit, bringing in significant sums: “We raised €100 and €144,” confirms Emmanuel Moutin, mathematics teacher. These sales not only help to collect funds, but also create links with the residents and promote their project.

A supply of ideas

To continue this momentum, the students are considering other ways to increase their fund. An enthusiastic middle school student suggested asking a town crier to speak about their project at the local market. This demonstrates their desire to invest in their community while seeking innovative ways to raise funds. For now, they have raised an impressive amount of €827, which will help reduce the costs of the trip and fund activities on site.

A multifaceted trip

Beyond the financial aspect, this trip to Saragossa represents an exceptional educational experience. Indeed, the middle schoolers will have the opportunity to discover cultural, historical, and geographical aspects of Spain. Emmanuel Moutin, a teacher, is pleased with the transversal approach of this project. By using varied themes such as mapping or studying water management, the trip will be a true learning platform. The students will address themes related to heritage and ecology, promoting holistic learning.

Dive into Spanish life

The students will also have the chance to stay with host families, offering them the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture. This experience will allow them to practice Spanish in an authentic setting, as well as learn to feel comfortable in a new environment. Although some students feel a bit anxious as the departure approaches, this is an integral part of this enriching adventure. They are learning the importance of communication, adaptation, and autonomy.

A promising future

This trip project is more than just a simple relocation; it’s also an opportunity for these middle school students to develop essential skills while having fun. By using materials like flyers and cake sales, they learn the value of collective effort and the spirit of initiative. The activities carried out so far promise to inspire these young people to pursue their dreams and to excel in other upcoming projects.
