Beyond the excitement for the snow, this influx raises questions about the issues of overcrowding and the management of tourist waste.

The popularity of social media has revolutionized tourism, transforming once tranquil destinations into sought-after spots. During the weekend of January 26, the roads leading to Roccaraso were saturated: 220 buses and an endless stream of cars struggled to access the resort. The consequences were immediate. The ski lifts were crowded, endless lines formed in front of restaurants and restrooms, and the resort, usually peaceful, turned into a real circus. The residents, overwhelmed, had to face unprecedented situations.
An environment in danger
Beyond the practical inconveniences, the ecology of the region has also suffered. Photos and videos circulating on social media testified to a landscape turned into a vast picnic area. Waste was scattered everywhere, impromptu barbecues disturbed the tranquility of the places, and illegal campfires raged on the slopes.
